The Brave Japanese by Kenneth Harrison

Australian veteran Kenneth Harrison wrote his memoir two decades after the war, recording battles with the Japanese, a desperate attempt to reach Sumatra by boat, and the ankle injury that forced his party to surrender together. Imprisoned at Pudu, Changi, and on the Burma Railway, he endured starvation, disease, and forced labour before transport to Japan.

Liberation allowed Harrison to witness Hiroshima and Nagasaki’s devastation. His reflections on comradeship, enemies, and survival are unflinching yet respectful, offering younger generations a thought-provoking account of the Far East campaign.
