Since its inception, the format of the long weekend has consisted of the ‘ceremonial’ on the Friday - laying wreaths at War Memorials and the graves of Comète notables; visiting the “Villa Voisin”, Anglet (Comète operations in SW France controlled from here) and Vins d’Honneur at St-Jean-de-Luz and Anglet. The Saturday and Sunday sees us retracing the original Comète routes. A few years ago we decided to alternate the classic coastal route with the inland route that was used from ‘43 onwards. The full programme details for the 2017 Comète Commemorative Weekend in the Pays Basque have not yet been published so details will appear as soon as they are. The following photos refer to locations used for the 2016 event and may not necessarily be used in 2017. "Comete

For those of you who wish to explore Bayonne in the evenings, I’d suggest the Hotel Ibis which is reasonably priced (given that September is still high season here) and is surrounded by shops (ideal for picking up snacks, munchies and water..). From the hotel, it’s about a 10 min walk to the Town Hall. I’d suggest booking asap!
